This tale blooms in the corals and anemones of the Eastern Sea. Emperor Yasuki, the first half-sea dragon and half-merfish ruler, has struggled under the pressures of the role for centuries. Ostracized by the other sea kings, Yasuki uses what little power he has to keep his people happy and his waters turquoise blue. While he is not overworking himself, the emperor worries to bits about his worth as a ruler and a father.
His adopted koi-fish daughter, Princess Umiko, is a young woman now. Under his care, she has been able to live a comfortable life as the mermaid princess of the East Sea. However, that did not come without its own share of responsibilities. Being an outgoing and adventurous merfish, the poised and strict life of a princess did not suit her well. Her lack of adherence to tradition only added to the weak reputation the celestial palace had.
Emperor Yasuki was as limp as kelp. Princess Umiko was a stain on the Azure Celestial lineage. These scathing words were not unknown to these individuals, but they did what they could to keep their sea and each other afloat. On days that are quiet, Princess Umiko would take her father on a peaceful swim, enjoying each other's company and presence, if no one else could.
