While a specific number of years are not given, the current emperors are of the 12th Dynasty, meaning there have been 12 rotations of emperors for each territory.
Each dynasty may last from 500-1000 years.

Sea dragons arrive on Earth from the skies, blessing the land with life. Four sea dragons are designated as sea emperors, and the first land dweller would rule Sunland.
12 dynasties later...
Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Mongolian sea dragon clans are given the sea emperor titles. A Chinese dwelling clan receives Sunland.
Original Sunland emperor of the 12th dynasty raises leviathans to murder Emperor Takara of the East Sea. The throne is replaced with a Tamil dwelling.
Yasuki is chosen as the first hybrid dragon/merfish emperor to replace Takara, continuing the 12th dynasty.
Demon pirates steal the dragon pearls to destroy the seas. Raging storms and disasters occur to end the world. Princess Umiko is able to stop the destruction by returning the pearls.
The four seas and Sunland mend political bonds. Inner populations within different seas start to join with their home sea.
A winged dragon attempts to take over Sunland and kidnaps the four sea kings. Princess Umiko and other winged dragons help liberate the emperors.
Yakut, Thai, and Iranian sea dragon clans are given the sea emperor titles. A Fillipino dwelling clan receives Sunland.
For the 13th dynasty, Princess Umiko becomes the first mermaid to become ruler of the Eastern sea.
