Creatures of the World

Biolife

The sealife of TSKM is the most populous group of creatures in this world, from large creatures such as whales, to the smallest of plankton life. A merfish may even find their distant relative amongst the coral, and such a thing is common. This is the same case with dwellings of Sunland.

This begs the question… what is the difference between the sealife and merfish?

In terms of address, the denizens of this world refer to their species name, such as merfish, and their sub-species name are their specific fish.

Natural Pufferfish

Pufferfish

Mer(fish)maid

A normal fish is called a natural _____ (natural great white, natural snow crab, etc.) A merfish with the same traits is simply a ______ merfish (great white merfish, snow crab merfish, etc.)

"Umiko is a mermaid, she is a koi. She saw a natural koi today." or "Faizal is an octoman, he is a blue-ringed octopus. He thinks natural blue-ringed octopi are too tiny."

…does seeing a primitive form of yourself get awkward? Sometimes, but no one dwells on it too long.

Leviathans

Sealife that bears no resemblance to merfish are the beasts of the world: one such example is the leviathan.

Leviathans are old beasts, depicting prehistoric creatures from a time long gone. They were here before the sea dragons had ascended onto the world, and subsequently were kept at bay for said world to bloom with life.

While they hold no magical powers of their own, their sheer size and volatile nature threaten the peace of the sea.

Mythical Creatures

In terms of mythical creatures, besides the concept of leviathans, there are no mythical creatures unique to TSKM.

Each culture represented in this world brings its own mythical creature (whether it be on land or sea).

How myths and folklore of other cultures play into this world can be read in "Rules & Magic of our Cultures".
